I believe every student has the capacity to succeed. Having gone to a liberal arts college and majoring in a science I prefer to use the Socratic Method of teaching. By asking the student smaller and more manageable questions you teach a student to be able to think about underlying concept instead of just using a formula to solve the problem. Once a student has grasped the a conceptual understanding they are then able to think at a higher level.
Being a grad student, I know first hand the joys of challenging oneself with further education. It opens up not only greater opportunities for employment but it also gives students the ability to look at the world differently. I hope that as a tutor I am able to encourage students to take their studies seriously and push themselves towards greater conceptual understanding.
