I am going into my fourth year at the University of California, Santa Cruz, double majoring in Math and Philosophy. I have always loved working with kids. I babysat all throughout high school and worked as a camp counselor last summer with kids from ages 8 to 15. Preparing lessons and helping the kids work through different problems and projects made me realize how much I value helping them truly understand a subject. One of the best math teachers I ever had emphasized understanding formulas instead of just memorizing them and this is a philosophy that I hope to impart on my students. If a student understands the concepts in a subject, the better prepared they will be to critically think through problems they haven’t seen before. I have always loved math and, although it can be challenging, I hope to help my students find the enjoyment in working through a problem. In my spare time, I enjoy exercising the creative side of my mind by hiking, reading, and going to the theatre!
