I value learning opportunities that inspire students to develop a sense of self and growth. I have just moved back from Costa Rica where I taught both mathematics and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) incorporating these values into my teaching. Mathematics and ESOL are subject areas that I feel passionate about. While they seem to be different, I believe that the content of each can be a way of communication. Mathematics is the understanding of the functions while ESOL is the comprehension of a language in order to communicate with others. My patience with my students allows them to travel through their own process of learning at their own level while I ensure they meet all of their needs. Being mindful is a practice I use both in the classroom and in my personal life and I see the benefit of staying focused on one task in all that I do. The process of learning never stops and I aim to always look forward to new learning something that these tutoring sessions will bring to me and additionally to my students.
