Hello! My name is Jameel, and I love helping people get comfortable with math. Tutoring math was the first job I had, and I fell in love with it immediately. Many students believe that math is something that they could never be good at, and that they need some genius mind to understand what's going on. This is the delusion I strive to break when it comes to teaching math, and I have time and time again seen the confidence of students grow in approaching problems; Math really isn't bad at all! I would venture to say it's pretty fun.
I particularly love tutoring all Algebra (Algebra 1, 2, Pre-Calculus) - High School Calculus. My teaching philosophy with math is fairly straightforward; I believe math is learned by (quite simply) doing math. Having kids read a textbook or listen to a lecture and expect them to understand it the first time is crazy! Nearly all math I teach is done by simply working on math problems with students, at a slow easygoing pace until the student becomes confident to approach it on their own. Many students simply don't receive this type of help in the classroom setting. Everyone learns at their own pace, but I firmly believe anyone can become comfortable in the world of math, even students who have struggled with math their entire life.
I hope to work with you or your child soon.
