My pre K-12 teaching career has included working with students at the elementary, middle and high school levels in the subjects of visual arts, history, language arts, as well the full range of elementary subjects. Now, as a retired teacher, it is my pleasure to work individually with students to improve academic skills in a way that is just not possible in a full classroom.
My area of particular interest is Language Arts. For learners needing help with reading, I can help from phonics through fluency. Along with increasing fluency my students improve their comprehension, vocabulary, and enjoyment. I believe that the discussion and reflection that literature inspires develops critical thinking skills that contribute to competent writing.
Writing is the other side of reading, and I am experienced in helping students express themselves cogently and with verve. I have helped students from elementary school through college improve their written work, through the processes of brainstorming, drafting, and editing.
I await the opportunity to help your student improve his or her skills.
