I am a rising sophomore at Vanderbilt University. I am pre-med and am working towards a Molecular and Cellular Biology and Medicine, Health and Society double major. I was born and raised in Kansas City, where I attended St. Teresa's Academy for high school. I first started tutoring during junior high when I began helping other students with math. I have kept it up ever since by tutoring students privately, through a peer tutors program at my high school and as a volunteer at a local grade school. I tutor primarily in math along with test prep for the ACT/SAT and biology. I love helping students grasp a concept they were struggling with and showing them they can succeed. I subscribe to the idea that nearly anything can be quickly memorized and forgotten, but that a true understanding of a concept will last much longer and allow a student to improve in the long-term. I try to break down the ideas behind problems for students however it most makes sense to them so that they understand what they are working on and how best to approach it. Outside of schoolwork I love cooking, volleyball and watching a Royals game. I am very passionate about social justice issues and I hope to work in global health one day.
