I hail from New Orleans, where I graduated from Tulane University with a Bachelor of Arts in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. Since then, I have been in pursuit of an Engineering degree in Biological Systems. I enjoy challenging left brain/right brain assumptions and try to impart the confidence for a student to succeed in any area of education they choose. I have developed a problem-solving mentality through engineering and approach each client by identifying the main hurdle in understanding, developing an individual plan for success, and following through with the solution. I assisted with literacy development for children in low-income communities in Chicago; mentored high school juniors to succeed in college-level English and Math courses in New Orleans; and led study groups among community college students for Engineering and Physics courses in the Bay Area. I believe change is the spice of life and choose to greet each subject I tutor with the same passion and commitment to the student. I am most passionate about students overcoming challenges to their dreams, whether it is college prep to be accepted to their 'reach' school, passing an 'impossible' course, or pursuing a course that calls their heart. Speaking of calling hearts, I continue to write poetry, farm in West Oakland, and nanny three children I love.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Each student is an individual, deserving of the time and care in identifying the main hurdle for understanding. If this hurdle needs visual representation of a complex concept, I am there. If this hurdle is memorization of rules, I am there. If this hurdle is lack of confidence, I am there. I meet each student and develop personalized plans for success.
