I love teaching and tutoring. I was a teacher at the college level when I was in China, and I was promoted to Associate Professor in 2010. I had more than 800 students in 11 years' teaching. Many of my students still keep in touch with me years after their graduation. I understand that every student is different and I have developed skills to inspire and educate individual students according to their talents and abilities.
With abundant experiences and enthusiasm, I am sure I can help you learn the Chinese language.

Q & A
What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student can do well.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Introducing myself, understanding his or her situation, setting up the common goals and discussing the approaches to reach the goals.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I believe every student can do well and is eager to do well. All I need to do is to guide him/her and encourage him/her.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Motivation is one of the keys to get success. I believe it is very important to set an example to a student to help him/her get motivated. The example will be myself, and those people around him/her, or those well-known successful people.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
It is not rare that anyone would have certain difficulty to learn certain skills or concepts. It will help a lot if the tutor/teacher keeps demonstrating it, paying attention to the student's feedback, and details those concepts that the student is still confused by.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Reading ability is the base for learning. For those students who have difficulty reading, to start with, I will ask them to read certain material that would match their ability, explaining it until they understand it. Then I will advance the reading comprehension step by step. I understand I need plenty patience to help them, but I am sure I can make it.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
To understand their personalities, abilities and interests, and help them according to all these factors.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Interest is the best teacher to lead to success. As long as he or she is excited or engaged with the subject, that is a great start. I will praise every accomplishment he or she makes, even it is small. That will keep his or her interest constantly, and so he or she will make more and more accomplishments and will have less and less struggling.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Questioning and testing are good ways to see whether a student has understood the material or not. The questions and tests should focus on the knowledge points that the student is supposed to understand.
