I am a recent graduate from Western Washington Universtiy with my Masters of Science in Chemistry. I really enjoy science and math because I had great teachers in high school and want to pass that joy of learning onto others.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe in helping students understand the subject and not giving them the answers.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would try to establish a knowledge baseline and then go from what they know to where they want to be.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I believe by helping them figure out how they will best learn so they can continue learning on their own.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I believe in being encouraging.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would break it down into smaller simpler steps.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would ask them practice problems to solve on their own, and if they get stuck, I will know where they need more work on.
