Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My goal is to motivate students so they can think at a higher thought level, and figure out concepts for themselves in their real life. Helping students grow, while helping them use their creativity and their own mind, is my passion in tutoring and teaching.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I try to get to know the student so I can help the student achieve academic success. By figuring out their weaknesses in the subject, I am able to help the student build skills for success.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help the student become an independent learner by giving them the skills necessary for surviving and winning tasks of achieved success.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help a student stay motivated through a reward system developed by the student and I, as the tutor.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

There are many strategies I use as a teacher and private tutor that help students who are struggling with reading comprehension. It all depends on the learner.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Learning about their type of intelligence always helps me with students.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would find out what makes them feel good about learning so they can feel happy and comfortable about learning the subject.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I would use several techniques. As a teacher and tutor, assessing students on the material is one way of being sure.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Easy-----get them to figure out the answers on their own. That alone is an overwhelming feeling of success.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Talk to them!

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

Evaluate their comfort level of learning and type of intelligence.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Any learning materials.
