My goal as a tutor is to demystify writing and foreign languages by helping students to break those subjects down into a series of manageable tasks.
For essay writing, I specialize in structure—figuring out the easiest ways to create the most effective possible arguments. While writing is often considered a scary and nebulous task, I help students to develop efficient pre-writing skills that make writing relatively simple. I also push students to become critical thinkers who know how to analyze both sides of an argument in order to develop nuanced and responsible opinions.
My education in linguistics and grammar also allows me to help students understand foreign languages as more than just a series of strict translations. For any grammatical point, from verb conjugation to syntax, I help students to utilize concepts they already know in their native language to understand difficult points in Spanish, French, or English. I am also trained in phonology and specialize in helping students adapt to the sound systems of their target language rather than imposing their native accent over new words.
