My strongest areas are language; I am fluent in Spanish and I have experience teaching ESL and English as well. Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I feel that studying something in depth, one on one, is an excellent way to understand and retain material. The experience should be a positive one, catered to your learning style and pace. Communication and ease between teacher and student is key.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

We will address what the student hopes to gain from our sessions. We will outline a plan for the following several sessions. We will have a brief getting to know you period; we will get going as soon as the student is ready!

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

When the student sees the subject as relevant, and is able to get their head around it better, they become more motivated to know they can actually do it on their own. Small steps and small projects that gain positive results yield the desire to gain more knowledge.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Setting small goals and accomplishing them one by one, and having a greater goal for the entire group of lessons, gives the student something to look forward to.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Approach the concept from several perspectives, directions and learning styles. Find a new way to explain until the student gets it. Never give up on the concept or the student.
