I am bilingual in Vietnamese and English.

I am familiar with a range of tutoring needs; from homework help to creating individualized lesson plans to meet a certain standard. My teaching style depends on how each student learns best. My tutoring services are biweekly goal oriented.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is to explore every possible way. Each student learns a different way. For teaching success, a teacher must find that certain way the student learns.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In the first session, I typically get a feel for what the student needs, what we need to work on, and what is expected out of each party.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can help a student become an independent learner by strengthening the abilities they already possess as a student. Honing those skills are the best way for a student to become an independent learner because those abilities are what the students are most used to.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help students stay motivated by positive reinforcements and incentives like stickers and candy.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

If a student has difficultly learning a skill or concept, I would use different learning methods (visual/auditory/kinesthetic) to help the student understand.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

To help students who are struggling with reading comprehension, I would ask the student to read the passage paragraph by paragraph and annotate. Writing key words on the margins not only remind students what he/she was reading but saves time for tests.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would help a student get excited/engaged in a subject that they are struggling in by making it fun and breaking it down to a level where they would understand. By doing this, the student would understand that this is a subject that they should have no fear in conquering.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

The techniques that I would use to make sure a student understands the material is by administering mini quizzes and correcting un-facilitated problems together.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I would build a student's confidence in a subject by repetition. Repetition helps keep the learned information in long-term storage.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I evaluate a student's needs at the beginning of the tutoring services. I look at recent past reports to find what the school deemed the student was lacking in. I also take this time to ask the student what they would like to succeed in doing as well as what the parent expects of their child.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I adapt my tutoring to the student's needs each time I visit the student. Every encounter calls for another revision in how I provide my services because I get to know the student a little bit more.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

The materials I typically use result from what type of goals I need to meet with the student. It ranges from their school homework to personalized pre-made lesson plans.
