I am a former NYC high school English teacher with a Master of Arts in English and Theater Education from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. I lived a few different lives before becoming a classroom teacher, but the most important thing I've done as an educator and artist was sling on a backpack and travel the world. In the course of my travels, I discovered my love of teaching through volunteer projects in South Africa, Tanzania, and Nepal. I love working with students of all ages, and I specialize in teaching writing (creative, pursasive, expository, and college essays), English literature (from Shakespeare to hip hop), and reading (fiction, non-fiction, and poetry). I'm happy to help craft and revise essays and creative pieces, from grammar and structuring to flow and personal voice. I believe my background as a theater artist and writer helps me approach teaching from a unique angle; my creativity and comfort with different learning styles keep students engaged and help unlock their individual voices. My experience as a public school classroom teacher also means that I'm well-versed in state standards, academic writing requirements, and common student struggles with reading and writing. In my free time, you can find me doing yoga, taking photos, traveling, reading, kayaking, hiking, or skiing.
