I am a current undergrad in Cal State Long Beach majoring in International Business. I will be receiving in 2016 my Bachelors in Science. My culture was a major influence to my major choice. My family migrated to the United States in search of a better opportunity. I was the first child out of three to be born in the states. Spanish was my first language, it was not until Kindergarten, that I began to interact with English. Although I spoke Spanish at home, I was interested in learning more about the language and I decided to take Spanish classes since elementary until high school. I have also traveled to Mexico various times and have experienced the importance of being bilingual.

I love speaking Spanish. It is a beautiful and necessary language to learn, especially in Southern California. With my knowledge and experience, I guarantee you will learn to enjoy speaking, writing and understanding Spanish.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

Every person is different when it comes to learning. I will accommodate my techniques to every student. All I ask is for you to want to learn.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Figure out their strengths and weaknesses and help them improve.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Suggesting fun alternatives to learn.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Reminding them why they are meeting with me... their goal.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Figure out how to make it easier for them.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Guide them when learning.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Conversation is the best technique to have someone open to you.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Figure out what they most like. If it's music, I will suggest songs to listen to If it's drama, I will suggest dramas to watch. Students should practice the language outside of the classroom and tutoring session.
