Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My goal is providing knowledge and expertise in the Spanish language.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

For me, the first session is the most important one. It is the session where we establish a good communication so I can understand their needs and evaluate their language level. I will also briefly share information about myself, such as professional activities. I will get to know my students and ask them to introduce themselves, and ask them about their career and/or educational goals. Lastly, I will inquire about their expectations of the class.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Helping students to learn how to learn and increase their self-confidence so they can improve their study skills.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I will set goal-oriented instructions based on the student's needs and interests.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Support the student with different examples and methods.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Maximize student participation. Provide the meaning of words.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Exclusive use of the target (Spanish) language.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Encourage self-correction to help students understand the new language.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

Provide frequent activities.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Constant repetition, and encourage them to talk / read in the target language.
