I am currently a middle school teacher with the NYC DOE with four years of experience. I have an ELA license and have taught Humanities and Reading Intervention, and hold an MA from Teachers College, Columbia University and a BA from Colby College. After undergrad, I spent two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Lesotho in Southern Africa. I also co-led two summers of Overland's College Essay Program, helping 140 rising seniors to craft strong personal essays.
I love working with students, especially on matters of language use and writing. It is extremely rewarding to watch students develop their abilities, whether they are in primary school learning basic grammatical principles, in high school cultivating their voice for a college essay, or in college seeking to strengthen their philosophy paper or lab abstract. My tutoring style is highly collaborative. I do not want students to leave our sessions with only a stronger essay or answers to a few specific questions; rather, I want to equip them with the tools and instill in them the enthusiasm that will prepare them to take on any essay, assignment, or test that comes their way.
Outside of tutoring and education, I enjoy reading, backpacking, current events, and comedy.
