I graduated from the University of California, San Diego and now am in the process of applying to a Physical Therapy school. I majored in Human Biology, so I am most proficient in teaching AP Biology, SAT Biology, and other sciences. I also will be able to teach SAT Math and Algebra. Personally, I don't think just memorizing is the key to success. I believe that learning the processes and the WHYs help cement knowledge in students. I am able to show this to students and also help them not rely only on me, but also use resources, such as online, books, or youtube, to gain more insight and information.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I like to coach and motivate rather than give answers. I would break down the problem and have them explain each step on WHY they are doing it, and not just regurgitate answers.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

An assessment test to measure what areas must be worked on.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Use free resources such as YouTube or other free test prep websites.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Help find a reason to study and set reasonable goals.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Break down the problem and have the student explain each step. If the student has trouble on a part of the step, I would explain that part and have the student continue.
