What is your teaching philosophy?
Learning is a continuous process in life. Sometime we learn ourselves, and sometime we need help in learning. At that moment, the teacher plays a significant role in the learning process in one’s life. All of my teachers have a significant role in bringing me to this moment that I am ready to teach others and share my knowledge. I have always been interested in learning and sharing my knowledge. I struggled a lot in my freshman classes because of English being my second language, and I had to completely learn this new language. I overcame that difficulty after my continuous learning and positive thinking in bringing a big change in my life. I am an excellent student of math and science. I am very curious about the scientific facts, especially in Human Biology. That is why I chose my career in medicine for my future. I became a supplemental instructor for Human Physiology at the University of Houston Clear-Lake. I taught students for a year there thrice a week. I enjoyed teaching and sharing my knowledge there. Students understood very well, and I saw more and more students on each review session. That’s where I found my teaching ability, and I decided to choose teaching as my part-time job while I am continuing my education further. I teach students the way they understand better. It is a critical aspect of teaching to find out the level of the student understanding of the knowledge, and teach them based on that. When I teach math, I use different strategies to solve the problem. I show them a variety of ways to solve that, and find out what method they like the most and understand better. My job in teaching is not just to teach what I know; instead I am constantly engaging students on the topic and help develop a skill in them to understand and memorize, and use the same knowledge to solve new problems. When I am in a tutoring session, I ask them questions constantly about the topic and make them understand well. At each session, I tell them to read the chapter once beforehand and ask me while in the session about any confusion about the topic. I tell them to go over that topic at the end of each week to refresh the memory what he/she learned over the week, to remember for the long term. This is how I studied, and I want to develop similar strategies to help them succeed in their academic life.
