I have over 10 years of experience as a private tutor. I began tutoring as a high school senior when one of my previous Spanish teachers asked me to tutor a struggling underclassman. As an undergraduate at the University of Virginia, I volunteered with the “I Have A Dream” Foundation to provide one-on-one tutoring to students in under-resourced schools. I received my B.A. in Spanish Language & Literature from UVA and have continued my education with graduate-level Spanish courses.
After graduating from college, I began to focus on tutoring full-time. In addition to tutoring all levels of Spanish, I also have experience tutoring in a wide variety of content areas, including English (literature, grammar, and writing), history (U.S., European, and world), government, and math (pre-algebra, algebra I & II and geometry). Additionally, I offer help with organizational skills and test-taking strategies in preparation for AP Exams and taking the SAT, ACT, PSAT, SSAT, ISEE, and SAT Subject Tests. Typically, students I work with raise their class average by 2 letter grades; none have finished with less than a B in a class for which they receive tutoring.
I am a superb tutor because I am reliable, organized, knowledgeable, well-prepared, enthusiastic, and dedicated. I regularly design original teaching materials to meet the needs of individual students. I understand that every student approaches learning in his or her own unique way, and that some students have specific or special needs. My background includes working with students who have learning disabilities. I have a flexible schedule and strive to help students gain confidence and achieve academic success.
My hobbies include traveling, cooking, playing intramural sports, skiing, camping, kayaking, going to concerts, and spending time with friends and family.

Q & A
What is your teaching philosophy?
I am a patient, understanding, and enthusiastic tutor. I strive to explain concepts to my students in ways they will understand. I have excelled in boosting my students’ confidence and in making learning more enjoyable. When I begin working with a new student, I ask questions to determine their learning style. I help each student identify his or her goals, and then I design a program centered on achieving them, tailoring each lesson to the student and revising as necessary. I understand that every student approaches learning in his or her own unique way, and that some students have specific or special needs. My background includes working with students who have learning disabilities. I am happy to contact teachers to gain further insight into the student’s needs and to clarify course objectives.
