I am currently a second-degree seeking student working on a Bachelors/Masters in Biology. I have a Bachelors in Chemistry, minor in Psychology, and graduated through the Honors Program. I enjoy learning as well as teaching. I have become a better student and teacher by having accepted tutoring in the past. I have also excelled in both aspects by having the opportunity to tutor peers. I know what it is like to struggle but with enough help, encouragement, and self-motivation-good grades and understanding are within reach.

As a tutor and student, I strongly believe that one does not learn as well if they do not participate in the learning process. I like to ask directional questions to lead the student down the right track but ultimately makes the student find the answer. I will be tutoring in Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Psychology, and Microbiology.

What is your teaching philosophy?

My philosophy is that everyone learns differently. A teacher needs to be able to adapt and change to help the student learn in a way that works for them.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a typical first session I will first ask if there is anything they would like to focus on and where they struggle, so I can start there if a test is coming up. Other strategies would be to ask the student to take a quiz with many topics and see what they excel at and what needs work. I would like to make sure the student has the basics down, so we build up from there.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

To keep a student motivated I like to connect what they are learning to what they like and what they can use in the real world. Students become more interested when what is being taught is more personal.
