I am an Environmental Scientist by day, and a tutor by evenings and weekends. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Environmental Science, a minor in Molecular and Cell Biology, and a Master's in Environmental Health Science. I have significant experience teaching at the undergraduate level, having TA'd molecular biology for two years at UCLA. For the 2014-2015 academic year, I received the Certificate of Distinction in Teaching from the UCLA Life Sciences Department. This certificate is awarded to TA's who demonstrate excellence in teaching and who receive high marks on their student evaluations.
In addition, I volunteer in my Long Beach community, working with students from middle school to high school. I believe the key to my success as a tutor is both my ability to empathize and relate to students, as well as my excellent communication skills. Each student learns differently, and I try to cater to his/her needs specifically. It's really important to me that students know how to think critically and apply what they know, rather than memorize facts.
