I am a graduate of the NYU MFA program in fiction, as well as the University of Iowa, where I studied English, French, and comparative literature. Over the past five years, in a variety of tutoring and teaching positions, I have worked successfully with students of many different ages and cultural backgrounds, from low-income French middle schoolers, to undergraduate English Language Learners, to high schoolers in South Brooklyn. I have also taught in many different contexts, including SAT and Regents test prep, academic essay tutoring, and undergraduate creative writing at NYU. As an educator, I seek to target areas for improvement while reinforcing a student's strengths. I also believe in the importance of balancing efficiency with a warm and supportive teacher–student rapport--particularly given the vulnerable position of a busy, stressed-out student seeking help with high-stakes assessments. Because all students are different, I work to tailor my instruction to suit each student's unique learning style and personality. Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing jazz and classical guitar, cooking, and riding my bike (I've ridden across the state of Iowa five times).
