Here's a bit about me: I have 4.5 years of tutoring writing, grammar, punctuation, critical analysis and reasoning, research methods and proper MLA/APA format. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in English with an emphasis in writing, and two minors in Biochemistry and Biology.

I'm currently applying to medial school, so aside from tutoring science and writing, I can help you with any questions you may have about the new MCAT, pre-requisites for medical school and what you can start doing NOW to help you prepare for the long journey in medicine!

When it comes to SCIENCE:
Understanding processes in a clear and concise way is KEY to being successful in classes such as Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Anatomy. I excelled in Biochemistry (straight As all three quarters) and was 3rd in my class. I can teach you helpful mnemonics to speed up your study time AND explain processes in detail! Anatomy/Physiology is ALL about making connections and memorizing in an efficient way! I can teach you methods on how to connect and memorize large chunks of information, by compacting it into charts!

When it comes to WRITING:
Besides my four years of experience tutoring, I am creative and skilled in detecting grammatical errors. I have lots of experience helping students begin the writing process (e.g. Brainstorming for an essay) to helping put the finishing touches on a senior thesis, final paper, research paper, etc. I was president of the International English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta while at university and eventually was invited to present an academic creative piece titled Cadavers and Laughter: A Utilitarian Perspective at their annual, national convention! I have the skills needed to help you get past any writers' block!

When I'm not nerding out with a book in hand, I enjoy hiking, kayaking, scouting out places to picnic, digging for hidden places to find good sushi, or learning a new recipe!

Bottom line, my teaching philosophy is: "Let's cut out all the fluff, and teach me what I need to know!" I won't go over what YOU, the student already knows,;I'll help you build on it, so we don't waste any time. No fluff! *insert peace sign here*

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I use my own materials and any books available to me!

What is your teaching philosophy?

Bottom line, my teaching philosophy is: "Let's cut out all the fluff, and teach me what I need to know!" I won't go over what YOU, the student already knows; I'll help you build on it, so we don't waste any time. No fluff! *insert peace sign here*

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I'll get to know them, what they're struggling with, what they excel in and how they learn best.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By teaching them SKILLS so that they can once day depend on themselves to achieve good grades and, eventually, leverage knowledge so they too can teach others.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

By reminding them of their end goal, and asking them to recount how far they've progressed. You can only go up from here!

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Find a way to explain it in the simplest way, then build from there.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

By individualizing their plan, contacting the teacher so my method coincides with his/hers and including the parents as well.
