I am excited to return to tutoring after a hiatus. During my hiatus, I graduated with my 2nd MA in Elementary Education. I am an Arizona certified K-8 teacher, and I am an Arizona certified 6-12 English teacher. For the last 4 years, I have been a self-contained classroom teacher for 5th and 6th grade. However, as a tutor, I have worked with students from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Before tutoring, I was an adjunct professor for English Composition at the community college level as I have a BA and MA in English.

In my free time, I like to explore my adopted hometown in Arizona with my husband and son. There are many wonderful hiking trails and beautiful vistas. My son just turned 2, and he keeps me busy most of the time (#Ilovenaps). I look forward to meeting new students in person and via instant tutoring.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Motivation helps a tutoring session be as productive as possible. Maintaining motivation starts with short and long-term goal setting, tracking these goals, and celebrating success.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Creating a student-centered learning environment is critical to a student's success. A tutor should diagnose and use the student's learning style to create goals for student success, and communicate concepts in a way that is easy for the student to understand. I afford every effort to communicate with students in a way that makes sense to them; from making comparisons with everyday examples to creating visuals, communication comes in many different forms, and depends on the student's needs.
