I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and have attended the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities and Metropolitan State University. I worked with Math Corps tutoring students in Saint Paul and helping them to prepare and pass the MCA tests. I love working with students and relating math and science to real world situations. I feel that relating subjects to real world situations helps to put learning these particular subjects in perspective. I have extensive tutoring experience in Algebra, Geometry, Middle School Math and Science, Health sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Spanish, and Writing. I look forward to helping students gain a love for the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) subjects!

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

My teaching philosophy is to use real world examples. If someone is taking a class they don't understand very well and they don't understand WHY they are taking it, I feel using real life examples will show them how this subject can actually be useful to them in their life. It can open up a whole new perspective on learning the subject.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a typical first session, I would do some sort of activity to break the ice and get to know each other. I would then find out what the student's goals and interests are, and work together to find the best plan to help them reach their goals and succeed.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I believe I can help a student become an independent learner by helping them identify what it is they want to accomplish, and help them keep their eye on that and encourage them to keep working and trying their best- inside and outside of school in order to reach their goal.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would help a student stay motivated by periodically asking the student to set a goal for themselves and then encouraging the student to work as hard as they can to reach for that goal. This helps the student build confidence and work toward something for themselves.
