Hi there! I'm Wes, a passionate tutor and always curious learner. I specialize in reading and writing skills and have an BA in English from the University of Virginia and an MA in English from Western Washington University. I've tutored all ages from subjects ranging from math to geology to, again, English, and I taught six quarters of college English at WWU.
I ask that you:
-Ask questions! This is the number one missed opportunity for students at all levels. This will directly assist your own learning as well as help me calibrate that and future sessions.
-Seek connections. What causes what, how do these two things relate, how can A be applied to Z? Rote memorization, while one sometimes effective tool, will not be our primary method.
-Be curious. You'll learn more and enjoy our sessions.
I look forward to working with you.

Q & A
What is your teaching philosophy?
I seek to foster deep understanding of subjects and mastery of skills, rather than rote memorization. If you invest your energy in our sessions, I guarantee you will both retain information afterward and enjoy the session during.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Students and students' goals vary widely, so before anything else, I need to get to know you, your learning style and strengths and weaknesses, your objective(s), and your assignments. We may then go over some of your past work, your next assignment, or some sample material, depending again on your unique situation and goals.
