Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe any student can learn; every student and instructor should put the effort and mindset into it.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I will introduce myself and find out about the student's interests and learning style.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I will first explain the lesson and let him gain confidence. Then, I would give him independent assignments to do.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I will make lessons that are fun, and help him feel at ease with the particular subject. I'd also try different types of activities.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I will use manipulatives or real life examples that he can apply.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I give them strategies, and review every new concept we learn several times.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

I find out the student's subject of interest, and I get to know the student better.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would check and see what are the student's interests, and I will create some game that have to do with the subject, for example math. We can use cards.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I will repeat the material in different ways, and give him an informal assessment to check his understanding, and ask him questions.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I will show him he can answer questions, and praise him in different occasions, and show him his accomplishments.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I like to do formal and informal assessments.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I modify my materials by researching them online and altering them to fit the student's learning style.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I use print materials from different books that I have at home or from different websites.
