I earned my BA in English from Occidental College in 2014, where I graduated cum laude with a 3.55 GPA. I am currently applying for my MFA in Film and Television Writing.
Since high school, my friends have come to me and asked me to proofread their papers. Because I like English far too much, I happily complied, reading and correcting everything from academic essays to cover letters. The experience taught me how to balance constructive criticism and instruction, that showing someone how to improve is more than simply correcting a mistake. My middle school required that its students study grammar for six hours a week, and the fundamentals I learned then have served me to this day. Good, sharp writing skills never go out of style, and I hope to pass on some of these same lessons.
Though English was my strong suit, I scored 700 on the Math section of the SAT, to go along with a 790 in Writing and 780 in Verbal. A series of patient, skilled teachers showed me that careful preparation and simple problem solving goes a long way to curing the anxiety brought on by standardized tests.
