I am a transplanted New Yorker originally from California but now living in Staten Island. I received my Juris Doctorate from University of the Pacific's McGeorge School of Law, after getting a Bachelor's in Political Science and International Relations from Dominican University of California. I hope to be going for my LLM next year at NYU or NYLS. As a tutor, I specialize in English composition, literature, reading comprehension, spelling and grammar, creative writing, public speaking and the many and varied subjects that stem from them. I also tutor for the LSATs and can tutor subjects related to Political Science at the High School and Collegiate levels.
As a tutor, I prefer to guide students into finding the answers for themselves. After all, the purpose of tutoring is not to simply tell a student that there is a correct- or more correct, as the test would have it- way of doing things. Helping to guide a student into figuring out that rightness for themselves helps students with the underlying skills behind each problem or subject and helps to lay a better foundation for the student to build from in the future, rather than forcing a student to memorize each operation by rote. As such, I like to use leading questions, anecdotes and examples to get the student to where they need to be. Not only does this help with critical skills, but there is always more of a sense of accomplishment when a person figures out the answer without being explicitly told, and tackling a difficult problem should come with that sense of accomplishment. After all, the student earned it.
When I'm not tutoring, my hobbies include martial arts, cooking, singing, running obstacle course races, and expanding my already firetrap-worthy library of classic novels, Science Fiction, and Fantasy. On days where I need to get out of the apartment, I like to go to shows on and off Broadway and explore Manhattan, or attend classes on whatever seems interesting at the time.
