I received my education at the University of California at Berkeley and graduated with High Honors in the field of Art History. While my focus was in ancient Mediterranean art, I took courses covering both European and Asian art. I have a passion for the study of history in general, and I often like to combine my study of history with an understanding of language.
My tutoring experience is mostly informal, and consists of working with friends and fellow students to help them grasp certain concepts. In this context, I have tutored Spanish and some history. In addition to my tutoring experience, I have considerable experience with group instruction and in working with children and young adults from grades K through 12.
The subjects that I am most qualified to tutor in art history, world history, and American history, including preparation for the AP tests. I can also tutor Spanish and German, as well as SAT and GRE test prep. My favorite subjects to tutor are Spanish and art history.
Being able to work with students one-on-one or in small groups presents a unique opportunity - while instructors of large groups must contend with a number of individuals possessing a variety of learning styles and academic approaches, a tutor has the opportunity to address a student's specific needs and learning style. My approach is very much attuned to this - I seek to understand my student's unique approaches to learning, as well as their personal interests and goals, in an effort to find the most effective avenue towards understanding and retention of the material. When it comes to subjects in the humanities, social sciences, and language arts, I find that an interdisciplinary approach can be a great way to understand the material. Finding ways in which an uninteresting topic or subject related to one which the student does find interesting makes learning and retaining that subject both interesting and enjoyable.
