I am a math tutor in the Long Beach area. I studied Pure Mathematics at UC Irvine and am currently studying to be an actuary. I have been tutoring math for the past three years, and I really enjoy it! I have experience tutoring algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and multivariable calculus. I have also taken classes in linear algebra, differential equations, probability, and a variety of advanced subjects. As a pure math graduate, I understand how math works at a deep level and I love explaining it to people.
My tutoring combines quick problem solving techniques with a more visual, intuitive approach. I typically work by helping students through problems. First, I will ask the student to attempt the problem themselves to observe their approach. If they get stuck I explain the concepts and logic behind the problem. I usually try to give the student some kind of picture of what they're doing, because often times once they're able to visualize the problem, the solution becomes clear. My approach emphasizes developing mathematical intuition, which is crucial to be successful in the subject.
I am available to tutor at the student's home, school, and public places such as coffee shops or libraries.
That about wraps it up. I look forward to working with you!
Education & Certification
Undergraduate Degree: University of California-Irvine - Bachelors, Math
When I'm not doing math, I'm a pretty active artist. I've taken classes in drawing, painting, design, printmaking, photography, sculpture, and jewelry and I try to make art on a regular basis. I also write on occasion.
