Originally from just outside Washington, D.C., I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a degree in Theater at the University of Southern California in 2011. I obtained my degree this past May, while in New Zealand working on my first professional acting job (catch me on Power Rangers Dino Charge on Nickelodeon on Saturdays!).
Tutoring has always been of great interest to me because I genuinely enjoy the look on a student's face when they have mastered a concept that was previously unclear to them. I believe that every student is unique and should be tutored in a manner that caters to their specific strengths, needs, and interests. Every student has the ability to master any concept they desire; it's just a matter of figuring out how to tap into that ability in a way that makes sense and clicks with him or her. I have always had a great passion for languages - English was my favorite subject in school, I studied Spanish for seven years, and I took Chinese during my final year of high school - so I am very excited to be tutoring English and Spanish. I would have to say my favorite subject to tutor is English. I am obsessed with grammar! I often catch myself correcting my friends when they use incorrect subject verb agreement or say "me and my friend" (can you imagine?!) and have to remind myself that they didn't ask for an English lesson. Therefore, I am more than happy to oblige when someone is in need of some help with language!
Outside of academia, I am working towards a career as a professional actress. I also have been playing classical piano since I was six years old, and I sang with and directed my a cappella group, The SoCal VoCals, in college. Performance is a huge part of my life, but I also enjoy some time to myself, particularly if it involves reading. I also thoroughly enjoy getting outdoors for a nice long run or hike.
I look forward to meeting you and hope that we are able to master some languages together! The ability to communicate effectively with others is absolutely vital and I would be thrilled to be a part of your quest to master that skill.
