I am enthusiastic about sharing my knowledge especially through mentoring and tutoring. Initial years in my life I spent in India where I went to high school and college and later moved to The United States to obtain my Ph.D. in Applied Physics. I enjoy meeting new people, outdoor activities either sports or hiking. I also enjoy traveling and getting to know more about other cultures. I recently traveled to India and France which was fun.
I have taught students from middle/high school and also university levels. I am here to listen to you, and do my best to help you succeed. Please feel free to contact me and we can get started. I currently reside in the San Francisco Bay area and I am available for both online and in person sessions. I will soon update my calendar to reflect my schedule.

Q & A
What is your teaching philosophy?
Every student is not the same in the way they comprehend the subject. I believe in tailoring my approach towards each student.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Introduce myself and also have the student introduce themselves, and get to know more about their interests and purpose for seeking this class.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Creating interest and helping him or her relate to events that occur in everyday life in different fields.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Connecting what she is passionate about with the subject under current study. I'd also explain how doing well in the current subject would help achieve her goals.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I will try to come up with examples so the concept is clear. I can possibly do some demo or share some other material/videos that will be helpful.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I will have them divide the entire comprehension into smaller sections and draw the main message from each section and connect all of them.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I found that being friendly and able to connect with the students helps. Also, showing interest in their overall well being seems to be helpful.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I will provide nice examples or videos that will invoke the student's thought process.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I will design questions in different ways to ensure that the student understands the material.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Making them solve some problems by themselves will lift their confidence level.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I will ask the students where they have difficulty. I will examine their quizzes (possibly). I will ask a series of questions on various topics to make an assessment.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
If a student is struggling on some aspects of the subject, I will devote my focus there. I can also suggest other ways (such as using diagrams or translating the given problem to their native language, etc.).
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
Blackboards, live demos, video links, etc.
