I am from St. Paul, Minnesota, but I currently live in Los Angeles. I graduated from Pomona College in 2014 with a degree in Media Studies with a concentration in film theory and history and a minor in Spanish. I have been dancing since I was three and am currently a member of two dance companies here in LA.
While in high school, I tutored underclassmen after school as a member of the National Honor Society usually helping students with math and English homework. During my study abroad experience in Argentina, I taught English to children ages 5 through 14 as well as tutored students one-on-one and in small groups. Teaching and tutoring were not required of my program, and I was not even sure I was going to be doing it until I got there, but it ended up being one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences I had in Buenos Aires.
I would love to tutor a wide variety of subjects, but I think I could be most helpful in English, Reading, film studies, ESL, and elementary through middle school math and science. I can also totally geek out over ACT/SAT prep and college counseling -- I started reading the Fiske Guide to Colleges in eighth grade and read just about every other book out there on the topic, and I ended up getting into one of the best liberal arts colleges in the country. I would be happy to work through test problems, read over college essays, or just talk colleges!
I was a Spanish minor in college and a member of Sigma Delta Pi, the Spanish National Honor Society. While in college, I studied abroad in Argentina for six months, where I took classes in Spanish at the University of Buenos Aires with Argentinian students.
English has always been my favorite subject, and there is nothing I love more in the world than writing! I am a little obsessed with all those nitpicky little grammar rules, and I am a great proofreader/editor.
I have always loved learning, and even as a kid, I loved school. I hope I can share this passion for education with you or your student.
