Teaching is my passion, and I truly enjoy working with young people. I am the Middle School Science Teacher at Icahn Charter School #4, and an Adjunct Instructor of Physical Sciences at Westchester Community College. I am completing my Master's Degree in Teaching Earth Science from Hunter College, and received my BA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. I also have 3 years experience tutoring students, both individually and in small group settings.
I take an outside-in approach to tutoring. I believe that students need to understand the big picture before they can make sense of the details. I emphasize critical thinking, problem solving, analysis, and application of knowledge; skills that are essential for the classroom and today's standardized tests.
My tutoring sessions are lively, engaging, supportive, and interactive. I use visual and tactile supports wherever possible, and I am responsive to students' varied learning styles and needs. I expect my students to be partners and co-creators in their own learning experience, and encourage them to take pride in their own accomplishments.
