I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Florida State University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and a Bachelor of Science in International Affairs. After graduating, I was accepted into the program Teach For America, which places a diverse teaching corps into high-need schools and communities throughout the United States in pursuit of eliminating disparities in educational outcomes. I spent three years as an educator in New Orleans, during which time I worked at both an alternative school, teaching math to 6th-12th grade students with emotional and behavioral issues, as well as at a public high school, where I taught Algebra I and Algebra II to 9th-12th grade students. At the end of they year, 33% more students scored in the highest two categories on their Algebra I End of Course Assessment compared to the previous year. I consistently scored in the highest two categories on my observations for my teaching certification program as well as my school district. I've also worked at a school as an Academic Interventionist where I worked with 4th-7th grade students who needed extra support in reading and math, as well as ESL students who needed instruction in English writing and speaking skills. Outside of school, I volunteered with Catholic Charities tutoring adult refugees and immigrants in English. I have extensive experience with curriculum development, providing meaningful feedback on student work, preparing students for rigorous exams (including ones aligned to the Common Core Standards and ACT/SAT) and executing strong and engaging lessons. Although my teaching experience mainly relates to math, as an individual, my passion has always been the study of history and literature, and I've always personally excelled in these subjects. I would love the opportunity to tutor students who need support in reading comprehension, writing, and literature based exams, as well as math topics from upper elementary through high school prep for the SAT. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, spending time outdoors, seeing live music, and practicing yoga.
