I am in my 4th year teaching Social Studies at the middle school level for Virginia Beach Public Schools. I have taught all 3 levels of Social Studies (U.S. History I & II and Civics and Economics). I am currently licensed to teach Language Arts (English) as well. I have worked with children from all age levels from kindergarten to high school for the past 8 years. I also serve as a football and wrestling coach at my school. I believe that all students are capable of success. I try to express my passion and skills for teaching while creating a welcoming and engaging environment. I want all the students I teach or tutor to understand that learning is a lifelong venture of positive and fulfilling experiences. My experience, educational background, and personality will encourage my students to incorporate class material into real world applications.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that all students are capable of learning and can achieve great things. Students need to develop the proper mindset, and need to be shown the necessary tools to help them during their educational journey.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
We would need to get to know each other. I would need to figure out how the student learns best and adapt my strategies to help this specific student.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Teach them that learning is a life long skill required to be successful in life. Whenever starting something new, one has to learn; whether it be new experiences or a new class or topic. Learning is essential to life.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Stay positive! Keep my student positive and on the right track. I would have the student look at the bigger picture. Motivation comes from within. It is only my job to help identify and start that passion.
