I have several years of experience in education, including full-time paid employment, and I have experience working closely and one-on-one with students ranging from elementary school to college age. I have an M.A. degree in Art History from the University of California, Davis, and I have a B.A. degree in History (with a minor in Ancient Civilizations) from Boston College.
For the past two years, I have been working part-time as a teaching assistant for introductory Art History, Classics, and Asian American Studies courses at UC Davis. I planned and facilitated weekly discussion sections to ensure student comprehension, met with students one-on-one to discuss course progress and upcoming projects, and I evaluated student progress through exams and assignments. Before this, I worked as a full-time tutor at a charter high school in Boston, MA, where I worked closely with a group of twelve high school students, building math and literacy skills, preparing for standardized testing, and working on subject-specific homework help.
My interest in education began when I was in college and started volunteering with an after-school program for low-income students. I worked with kids from eleven to eighteen years old in this program for two years. It was great to really get to know the students and to see their development and confidence grow. Since I have finished my graduate degree and stopped working in education, I have come to realize how much I enjoy teaching and working with students, and I would love to find more opportunities to use my skills in education and teaching. I love to tutor math, history, and writing.
