I recently graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelors of Science in Biology, a Bachelors of Science in Zoology, and a Bachelors of Arts in History. I was a teachers aide for the introductory biology laboratory for two and a half years, and worked as a science and history tutor for the Academic Advancement Center for a year and a half. I have received tutor training and certification through the College Reading and Learning Association program (CRLA), and have been taught methods for helping students with learning disabilities.
I believe teaching should be interactive and informative. I use a variety of methods (visual aids, whiteboards, practice problems, etc.) to help students understand and engage with the material. I will ask students to participate in our sessions so they can learn the information through several mediums, and thus retain it better. My ultimate career goal is to become a college professor, teaching in the disciplines of biology and marine biology.
My hobbies include cultural expansion through the arts. Science can be very stagnant and methodical. I break this up by attending concerts, plays, musicals, and art galleries to reconnect with my creative side, and to allow me to see science from a different angle. I also love travel so I can immerse myself in the history of this world.
Subject Areas: Biology (general, AP, developmental, conservation, population, marine), Evolution, Ecology, Genetics, Zoology, U.S. History, writing preparation and editing, study skills, Philosophy, and ACT Science and Math test prep.
