I am a highly qualified bilingual educator with 10+ years of experience working with youth and adults both in and outside the classroom. I have recently graduated with my MA in Theological Studies. Prior to that, I received a Bachelor of Art in Spanish and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, both achieved as a dual-degree student at Texas A&M University. While studying for my degree I graduated from Kulkulcan Language Institute in Cuernavaca, Morelos Mexico during my full-immersion experience of studying abroad for a year in Mexico to gain fluency and to master the Spanish language. I have taught both in the public and private school sector and across the spans of ages and language acquisition levels, teaching foreign language to pre-schoolers, intermediate ESL students, adult/advanced conversation classes and high school students in Spanish I-IV. I have experience teaching and tutoring in small group settings, one on one and large group classes. I have worked for Lockhart ISD, AISD and private schools with alternative learning structures and philosophies in place.
I tutor Spanish at all levels of competency and am passionate about multi-lingualism & multi-culturalism, education & empowerment, I love to teach and tutor Spanish because, aside from the obvious benefits of being bilingual in Texas, the language structure is very formulaic and much more dependable than the English language. If you think logically and mathematically, then with some practice and tools, you too can master the Spanish language! I like to bring to life the language and cultures of Spanish learning and believe that language acquisition hoes hand-in-hand with immersion and cultural experiences. This, too, can make learning fun. Whether you would like to study Spanish to gain fluency for personal and professional reasons, or if you need support in your Spanish homework and would like to focus on grammar & sentence structure, I am the tutor for you!
I believe in the vast spectrum of multiple-intelligences and understand that every student has a unique approach to learning. With that I make it a goal to creatively tailor the tutoring session to meet your individual academic and emotional needs. My goal is to provide a fun learning environment while utilizing a holistic approach to language acquisition and learning.
Outside the classroom I am very active and adventurous. I like to dance, play sand volleyball and softball, kayak and enjoy nature. I love yoga, camping and hiking too, so I often take friends to explore the beautiful hill-country wilderness sites in and around Austin. I love music and international travel, but when I'm not traveling to a new country and exploring new cultures or languages I like to do that right here in Austin, Texas at a live concert or with new foods.
I can't wait to start our Spanish sessions! Because in the wise words of the Doctor: "The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." -Dr. Seuss
