I am a wholehearted person. Whether I win or lose, no one can take away my courage to try my best. While I have achieved many goals, I know that I owe a debt of gratitude to my friends and family. With a sense of compassion toward those around me, I learn from other people’s experience and think about how my actions impact the world. My peer group, my education, and my positive attitude give me good odds to succeed at whatever I do. Above all, I see myself as a leader in the community. At the end of the day, I am content because I went through each trial and tribulation with 100% integrity.
I value my courage. From performing my original songs on stage in Nashville, TN, to working on the front lines of the 2014 election, I understand what it means to put myself out there and stand behind my work. By taking on leadership roles from captain of the Scholastic Bowl team to cabin counselor at an overnight camp, I know the value my strong leadership adds to a group effort. I am equal to any task because I will try wholeheartedly.
From my experience, I understand how unity among connections provides strength. I felt the power of the community when I worked as a marketing intern for Vanderbilt Athletics. Working as an ambassador to the Nashville community and to the Greek life community, I established a foundation for fan support on a person-to-person level. My favorite opportunity to reach fans in the community was at the ‘Coach’s Call-In Show’. To show appreciation for the fans, I printed out action photos, the latest stats, and took song requests for my gig as the stadium DJ for the baseball team. Through interactions with fans at this weekly event and other opportunities such as meeting with local small businesses, I gained connections that I maintain to this day.
My outlook on life ensures that I will not take opportunities for granted. In the days just before the 2014 election, I met many residents via door-to-door canvassing who believed the Illinois political system was too corrupt for a change to occur. Fortunately, I was able to use my personal experience to persuade these voters that this would be a fair election. By working for the Ballot Integrity team at the Illinois Republican Party, I worked with attorneys and local politicians to ensure that polling places were supervised according to the election code. I made the most of the opportunity to be a part of this team by incorporating experiences from working on a U.S. House of Representatives and Illinois gubernatorial campaign, allowing me to raise the spirits of my co-workers at the party and the people I met while canvassing and at political events.
