I received a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and Education in 2005 and a Masters of Social Science with a Certification in Women's Studies in 2008. In 2005 I completed an internship at the National Institute of Cancer in Bethesda at the National Institute of Health.

For four years, I designed and implemented curriculum for approximately a dozen classes as part of an after school program for high school students. I have served as a guest speaker at several Universities on diverse topics. For the past several years, I have been working as a private academic tutor teaching a range of subjects including ACT/SAT preparation, AP American Government, AP English, AP Psychology, Study Skills, Algebra, Forensics, Biology, and more. My students have ranged from grades 2 through graduate school. I work with each student individually to assess their learning style. I like to approach teaching in a variety of ways adapting my lessons to every student as necessary.

I have a fairly flexible schedule, and I am willing to work with students to create a schedule that is convenient and effective for them.

Here are a few of the things I LOVE about my job:

-I've worked with students who have dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, autism, aspergers, hyperlexia, auditory processing disorder, and social-emotional processing disorder. With every one of these students, I have learned more and more about what these challenges mean and have figured out what techniques work best with each person's learning style.

-I get to tell nerdy jokes ("Two atoms were walking down the street when one of them said, 'Oh no! I just lost an electron!' The other atom turned to the first and said, 'are you sure?' and he replied, 'I'm positive!' ") to help students better understand their work. These are jokes which I find personally amusing AND I get to tell them for a legitimate reason.

-I've had the opportunity to talk about politics on a regular basis with several of my students taking AP Gov. Having the opportunity to discuss current politics with people just beginning to understand the world around them is incredibly rewarding.

-I get to learn new things all the time!
