I truly believe that a student can learn anything and everything that s/he sets his/her mind to learn, so long as s/he is able to learn it in a way in which it is easy to understand. In laymen's terms, everyone learns differently. As a Varsity Tutor, I am keenly aware that there is no particular script to stick to when it comes to teaching concepts for test preparation or algebra. The wonderful thing about both of these areas: there shouldn't be a script to stick to in the first place! There are so many different ways to understand the worlds of mathematics and language arts. Who are we to define the rules by which to understand them? As a Varsity Tutor, you can rest assured that I am well-versed in all material I aim to cover and I encourage out-of-the-box methods to solving problems. It is no easy feat to master the SAT or to survive factoring in Algebra, but these worlds are far more flexible than one may think. Allow me to bridge the world between your child's iPhone and the Pythagorean Theorem.

I'm a college graduate in Psychology (go Mercy Mavericks!) preparing to become certified to teach middle school in the state of Texas. I am, however, a transplant; I'm setting my bags down in San Antonio by way of New York City. My goal in teaching and tutoring is to take the drag out of the material. There's no doubting that some concepts just aren't going to reach students at first glance. However, if one can draw a link between a concept and something going on in a student's world, wouldn't that make that student much more likely to want to learn the material?

So, in terms of what to expect from this Varsity Tutor: expect a well-kept, professional individual with an affinity for math the likes of a college math team and the social knowledge of Mark Zuckerberg. It only seems best when we can bring the classroom into our lives that way.
