I graduated from Georgetown University in 2011 with a BS in Neurobiology and Spanish. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Neuroscience at Washington University in St. Louis. I have worked with students at all ages and education levels. I have worked with elementary school students as a part of a reading program while I was in high school, and I recently taught part of a genetics course to senior undergraduates at Washington University.
My favorite academic subject is science (especially relating to biology and genetics), but I love working through the logic and fundamentals in math as well. I am fascinated with science and math because, to me, there is nothing more exciting than deconstructing this complicated universe into its most basic parts. My teaching philosophy is modeled on this; even the most complicated of problems or issues can be broken down piece by piece until they are easy to understand, and putting concepts back together allows us to construct a coherent big picture of that subject or topic. I have a penchant for making science and math enjoyable to work through and very rewarding to figure out! I am also a tutor for test prep (SAT and GRE), especially the critical reading, verbal, and writing components because as a scientist, I have been trained to critically analyze written work, and convey written ideas in a concise and clear manner.
My enthusiasm for learning and teaching helps me construct lessons that are unique to each individual student, and to me there is no greater reward than the 'eureka!' moment when I see that a student has finally grasped a concept they were struggling with.
Apart from academics, I love to play and listen to music, participate in various intramural sports teams, and I am an avid reader.
