I completed my undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley where I studied integrative biology and I have recently finished my Masters degree in biological sciences. I am currently working on applying to medical school and becoming a physician so that I will be able to educate patients on how to better care for their health.
Officially I have experience tutoring elementary school students but unofficially I have also tutored and supported friends throughout my academic career, assisting them on homework or clarifying a concept. Additionally, I have an extensive background working with toddlers and young children, which I believe has helped me understand that different individuals develop and learn at different rates and with different methods. I consider myself as a very patient person who is a good listener, and therefore have no problem focusing on a particular area regardless of the amount of time it takes the student to grasp it.
Although I am proficient in the science field, I feel most comfortable tutoring math for the time being, solving and explaining the reasonings behind each step. As a tutor I always like to gauge the student's knowledge first then step-by-step work towards their problem area. I believe in engaging students at all times by asking them to reiterate or redo a problem, ensuring that they fully understand a problem or concept.
Outside the academia world I have a wide range of interests: painting, drawing, reading, TV, movies, music, cooking, eating, comics, yoga, fashion. Additionally I volunteer for the Morris Animal Refuge in my spare time where I am able to interact and socialize with dogs and cats who have been abandoned.
As someone who has been in school for so long, I would love to be able to share any knowledge or tips I have learned along the way. I would never be condescending or patronizing; as someone who myself has had to seek academic help at some point, I am sensitive about making others feel at ease and supported especially in these situations. Regardless of the area one is studying, positive and motivating treatment from others is most conducive to succeeding.
