I am a native Oregonian. I received my Masters of Arts at The University of Hawai'i and my Bachelor of Arts at Portland State University both in the field of mathematics. I also spent a few years studying art at Portland community college as a teen. I have been a mathematics tutor for many years. I have tutored for as young as fourth graders up to college students. While I tutor most mathematical subjects my favorites are geometry, algebra, and basic k-5. Geometry is so much fun, no matter which way your teacher is approaching the subject. Algebra is the building block of so much more and is so intricate and yet simple that it is fascinating. While basic mathematics is amazing in how incredibly deep it is. I believe that mathematics is a language. You won't truly be able to speak it until you learn it's frame work and vocabulary. Just like any other language, the more you speak it the better your proficiency. I challenge my students to learn in a way where they can explain the underling concept of what is going on. I find this helps them later on extrapolate the information they would need to solve similar problems. In my spare time, I enjoy crafting, baking, doing DIY projects around my house and making art all of which I find balance out the mental exercises of studying mathematics. I also love taking my dog on walks, and watching the Blazers play basketball.
