I am a recent graduate from the University of California San Diego with my Bachelor of Science in Physiology and Neuroscience and my Master of Science in Biology. While attending UCSD, I played for the school collegiate soccer team. I grew up in Davis and attended Davis Senior High School. I have been tutoring on and off since my senior year of high school and have worked with students from the ages of 10 to ones in their early 20’s. I did well in my Biology, Chemistry, and Physics courses throughout college and having recently taken the MCAT, I have a great understanding of all these subjects. I am available to tutor in any of these subjects and Algebra I at the junior high, high school, and college level. I have always had a passion for the sciences as well as math and love helping students out. I remember having trouble learning these concepts during my time in junior high and high school. However, when I was taught these concepts in a different perspective, I had a better grasp of the material. I focus on conceptual understanding rather than just rote memorization and teach students how to apply what they have learned (during high school, students may do well by just memorizing the facts, but then have trouble in their college courses because they have difficulty applying what they have learned). This is what I implement in my teaching style.
In addition, during my studies at UCSD, I was provided with the opportunity to TA multiple times. As a TA, I taught my students how to study effectively and efficiently so that they could master the material that I presented them with. I also taught my students how to break down difficult concepts in a way that would allow them to learn and retain the information that had once seemed so foreign to me. My responsibilities as a TA were taken dutifully because of my awareness that my students needed someone knowledgeable to direct questions to. I quickly realized that it was crucial to connect with my students not only a professional level, but more importantly, on a personal level. Consequently, I placed the utmost importance on forming bonds with my students through my candor and approachability. Through my experience as a TA, I learned the significance of relating to others on a personal level in order to best assist those in need, which is what I will take with me when I pursue my career.
I plan to apply to medical school. In my spare time, I live and breathe soccer. I have played my entire life and will probably never stop playing. I also enjoy photography, music, and traveling.
