I am a recent graduate of Sacramento State University, holding a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities with a concentration in Religious Studies and a minor in English. I also hold two Associate Degrees from American River College, one in Liberal Studies and one in Language and Literature. My future educational goals include working towards a Master's in Divinity and eventual work as an interfaith chaplain in hospital and hospice settings.
In my scholastic career I have enjoyed the opportunity of working with students from a broad range of backgrounds; everything from working with inner-city youth as a camp counselor for the San Francisco Boys and Girls Club to experience tutoring college students at American River College here in Sacramento. My volunteer work as a workshop facilitator for my community has given me an in-depth understanding of different worldviews and communication styles, in addition to increasing my empathy and patience. I feel these qualities are immensely helpful when working with students in order to assist them in their own educational goals. My favorite aspect of tutoring is the ability to be of service to someone who genuinely needs it, and sharing with them the "light bulb moments" when they grasp an idea or concept that they had been struggling with previously.
Subjects that I tutor include English and Literature, Social Sciences, Psychology and even Public Speaking. It is difficult to pick a favorite subject out of all those, as several are near and dear to my heart. I adore Literature, especially poetry, and find the Social Sciences, Psychology and Public Speaking to be thoroughly engaging as well. If I were pressed to answer I'd have to say that Religious Studies holds a special place in my heart, as I have always found spirituality and how it shapes the way we move through the world incredibly enriching and intriguing.
When I manage to find free time, I love to read and watch movies. Favorite genres include fantasy and science fiction; favorite authors include Neil Gaiman, Heinlein, and Tolkien. I also try to make time for lots of walks outdoors, a bit of beading now and again, creative writing, and my interest in aviation, raptors, and falconry!
