Through my experience tutoring and as a classroom teacher, I have learned how to create lifelong critical thinkers who have a passion for learning. I have a BA in Sociology from Tulane University and my Masters degree in Childhood Education from Hunter College. I am licensed in New York State to teach grades 1 through 6 and prior to becoming a tutor I taught at a private school in Brooklyn. I have also taught cooking classes to children and love to share my love of cooking with my students. I am a certified yoga instructor and enjoy teaching and practicing yoga as well as and spending time with my daughter.
My primary aim to motivate students and give them all the tools they need to reach their full potential. I understand that each student is unique, and I take the time to develop an individualized curriculum for each of the students that I tutor.
As a tutor, I raise students' self-efficacy by creating a fun, stimulating and engaging learning environment. This helps to boost their motivation and confidence inside and outside of the classroom. I love teaching all subjects but I am most passionate about teaching reading. I love watching students gain confidence in their reading abilities, specifically the moment when they are struggling with a word but are able to use the strategies they have learned to read the word on their own. The look on their face is truly wonderful and I find it extremely rewarding to be able to help students overcome whatever challenges they face.
